Forget WiFi. Your child needs a wild connection.

Forget WiFi. Your child needs a wild connection.

Take your child out of the house, away from the screens, into the wild. You don't need the forest, you can use your local park. Provide the space and make it meaningful - teach them about the world around them, talk about the snail trail they have found, watch the bee on the clover patch. Pick grass and make it a 'birds nest'. It can be memorable and simple.

A strong connection to nature will have a positive impact of your child's whole life. My son's favourite place is a tree in a field. It has been a pirate ship surrounded by a grassy sea, a primitive camp for outlaws, an island refuge with buried treasure. It will improve mental and physical health, foster a pro-environmental outlook and boost happiness.

A parents role in this cannot be understated. You are modeling that connection to nature and strengthening your family bonds.

Want easy ways to get started? Our nature kits make magical outdoor play simple — even in your own back garden. Launching Summer 2025

Try this today: take a jar on your next walk and let your child mix their own “wild potion” — water, herbs, petals, mud. See what happens.

Tell me in the comments: what’s one wild moment your child has loved lately?
